Bridesmaids gifts.....etiquette; jewelery or hair/makeup?

I have five bridesmaids (4 + MOH). I was wondering what the proper etiquette is as far as their hair and makeup for the day. Do they pay for it themselves or am I supposed to? (I know everyone has a feeling on this; I'm looking for what ETIQUETTE says I do)

My mother wants to go to this place she heard about, she wants herself, me, my FMIL, and perhaps my sister (MOH) to go. I don't think it's fair to my BM's who might want their hair/makeup done, too. But I also feel bad asking them to pay.

Another problem I have with this is that one of the bridesmaids has very difficult hair. It's naturally curly; it is shoulder length but if she were to straighten it it would be past her butt: THAT curly. She finds it difficult to have anyone new style her hair. If I go to this place, what about her?

And, kind of a poll here......What would you prefer as a gift, the jewelery for the day (if I don't give it they can wear whatever they want) or hair and makeup? What would YOU want?Bridesmaids gifts.....etiquette; jewelery or hair/makeup?
When I got married, the bridesmaids paid for their own hair and makeup, usually if you all go to one place, the hairdresser will do your hair for free, at least that's what happened to me. Some people pay the entire shot for their bridal party, but i really don't think it's necessary, but the best thing to do is talk to your bridesmaids, you may find that they assume that they have to pay and you're in the clear.

As for your friend with the curly hair, she should go to the salon a few weeks before the wedding and try out different styles to see which one will work on your big day. In fact, your entire bridal party(not the inlaws and your mom) should go a few weeks before and try them out. You would hate to be in a position on your wedding day with a style you hate(it happened to me!)

For my bridesmaids, I had custom bracelets done for each of them , with the stones matching the colour of their dresses. For my MOH, I had a set, necklace and bracelet. In terms of wearing what they want, if it doesn't bother you, then it should be fine. If you have an idea in mind of what you would like, then you should let them know.

I hope this helps, and don't worry.. you and your party are going to be gorgeous!

Congratulations :DBridesmaids gifts.....etiquette; jewelery or hair/makeup?
I'm actually setting up a block of time with an inexpensive hairstylist for my bridesmaids. I have 4 in total. I'm having someone come to do my makeup, so if the girls want to get their makeup done I will let them know what time the makeup artist will be there. I'm also buying them sets of jewlery, it's not expensive I got them for $15 a set. Considering that they paid for the dresses, shoes that I want them to wear for my wedding, I feel it's the least that I can do.
I know it seems to be the big thing these days to have all the bridesmaids hair and makeup done professionally, but the fact is, you need to look at finances, even more than etiquette. Not only your finances but theirs. These are women you like, your friends. Obviously you liked them for more than their appearances. Why not just let each woman decide for herself how she can look best? Twenty years from now how they looked won't be important to you, but how you were their friend will be.
the bridesmaids pay for it themselves! Also, I gave all of my bridesmaids and moh jewerly sets(earrings and necklace). I found these cheap at claires like $10 for the set, but icing at claires(a different store) has beautiful things also! give them something they can keep!
Etiquette says that the BMs and the MOH assume full responsibility for their attire, transportation, lodging and anything else (including hair and make-up) that might be a required expense.

If you're feeling generous, then give them their hair and make-up for the wedding day ... just know that it is going to be more expensive than getting them a nice necklace and earrings to go with the dresses.

It is really up to you how you'd like to handle the situation ... just know that they are there for you and they'll pretty much comply with whatever. If you don't want to leave them out, then ask them if they'd like to join you at the salon ... a few might go and not get anything done and opt to do it themselves. Some people are finicky about doing their own make-up, etc.
The ettiquette states that when you accept an invitation to be in a wedding you accpet all the fincial responsibility that goes along with it.

Shower costs, dresses, shoes, etc.

However, if these girls are perfectly capable of doing their own hair and make-up, but you want it done a certian way, then you should pay for it. In my opinion hair and make-up dont fall under the ';usual'; costs of being a bridesmaid, I think you should pay for it if you want it.

As for your friend, I would speak to her first, I have found that bridemaids usually dont care what they have to do as long as it makes the bride happy on her special day. I would be surprised if she didnt feel the same way. I'm sure she will do whatever you want with a smile on her face.
I know you're stressing ettiqette here, but I agree with the first poster. You really need to look at what you can afford to do and what your budget is. If you feel comfortable paying for all your BM's hair, make-up, etc., go for it. However, these days I think it's more common for brides to have BM's pay for everything.

I'm also not requiring that my BM's get their hair and make-up done professionally. I trust them to do what they need to do to look good that day. Of course, I'm only having two, plus my MOH, all of which are family, so it's easy for me to deal with them.

What you could also opt to do is pay for their hair and make-up and just get them smaller, less expensive gifts (or give them a gift certificate for the hair place that would cover everything, plus a manicure treatment as well as an added bonus). You shouldn't be expected to provide a pricey gift AND foot the beauty bill AND pay for their reception dinner, you know? You have to keep in mind that it's your day, too, and while you should want your BM's to enjoy themselves as much as possible, proper ettiquette is what YOU decide to do. Either way, I'm sure they'll appreciate whatever you decide.

For my BM's, I'm getting them engraved jewlery. I wanted to give them something to remember the day by that's also stylish enough to wear after the wedding, and that's what I would want to receive as well.
It is their responsibility. The hair and make-up are a part the ';wardrobe';. As a gift you could provide them with jewelry.
The make-up I'm not too sure on.But I know that as a gift, a bracelet would be the way to go--all the same. That way they will take nothing from the dress or hair.Let the women know where you plan on getting your make-up done and the price. They need not know who's paying.Be sure they know that they pay their way.A small bracelet with a small charm that has the date on it will be nice...Oh,CONGRATULATIONS....
I don't actually know if there is proper etiquette as far as hair and makeup goes...

For my wedding, I did my own makeup, and had my hair done. I told my bridesmaids that I had a block of time reserved in the morning for anyone who would like to get their hair done with me - no obligation. Otherwise they were free to use their own stylist (face it, as women, we are attached to and trust our own stylists!) or do their hair themselves, whatever they were most comfortable with. I didn't care if they had the same hairstyles or not. I picked my bridesmaids because I loved them for who they were, and they were all different women - why would I want them to look like cookie cutters? I also believe that EVERYONE looks better when they are comfortable, so if they had a hairstyle that they were comfortable with because it suited them, they would automatically look better. Again, that's simply my opinion - it worked for me and my bridal party.

As for gifts, I got my girls jewelry (and traditionally, that is what I've received as a gift for being a bridesmaid), but I also picked up slippers for each of my bridesmaids - I think they were like $7 a pair. At the end of a long day on your feet (in heels!), putting on a pair of slippers was a welcome relief!
My SIL paid for all the girls in the wedding to get their hair and makeup done at a spa. Way expensive in my book, but okay. Jewlery, she bought us stuff from Icing, Claire's. We also got some stuff from Victoria's Secret. I actually didn't care either way. They had a over the top wedding, My hubby and I paid for ours out of our pocket. No loan. Smarter decisions! Best Of Luck.
How many of the BM are broke? If the hair and make up costs more and the hair and make up is more important for you (to make sure pics turn out great and all that) then I would foot the bill for that in place of a gift...if you're not that concerned about the hair and make up or your budget just can't accomodate it then stick to the jewelry and mention to them you are going and give them the info to make an appt themselves if they want to join you...if they are smart then they will realize you aren't paying...

If it were me I would want the hair and make up...if you have ever been a BM yourself then you know it is still stressful...what if you look awful and ruin the wedding pictures??...it would be nice to just chill with your girls for a couple of no stress hours before the big event...take the pressure of all of you...oh if the girl with the crazy hair doesn't want to try something new then give a gift certificate for the salon she normally visits or for a mani or pedi...then she won't feel like she's getting the shaft on her gift.

  • Help!!! I'm going to a murder mystery TONIGHT and need ideas for 70's hair and makeup.?

I'm guessing by 70s, you mean the disco era. If so, try wearing your hair feathered back (ala Farrah Fawcet in Charlie's Angels). Another 70s hair fashion was wearing scarves in your hair. For makeup, try anything glittery, blue eyeshadow and/or mascara, frosted lipsticks (especially pink)Help!!! I'm going to a murder mystery TONIGHT and need ideas for 70's hair and makeup.?

Help!!! I'm going to a murder mystery TONIGHT and need ideas for 70's hair and makeup.?
    COOOL!!

70's was all about that cheesy Farrah Faucet hairstyle--straight but curled UP at the ends.

You MUST use BLUE EYE-SHADOW and Pink Frosted Lipstick.

OR-----if your hair is short, straighen it so that its flat and curl the ends UNDER--so that it looks like a Bowl on your head--like a corny soccer mom.
Straight hair - unless your hair is short, then curl it ALOT! Blue eyeshadow is a must! Lots of eye liner. Light or white lipstick. Glitter is good if you are going for a ';disco'; look. Giant sunglasses were ';in'; too. :) Have fun! Good luck! :)
That depends--early 70s (hippie look), or later 70s (disco era)? Here's a site that will give you some good ideas:

    http://www.fashion-era.com/1970s.htm
Peasant dresses were popular if you don't want to go with the disco look. You could get away with bell bottoms and a flannel shirt. Watch some 70's movies or TV shows for more inspiration.
get a big curling iron and curl your hair back so that is feathers just right if you have layers. Use lots of blue eyeshadow and red lipstick. If you don't have layers, pull the sides of your hair up in a barret or something. Have fun!
oh wow that sounds fun! i say go all out and do a carol brady. Look up some pictures of her and try and emulate her, she's such a iconic seventies character.

I love your hair...it really makes your features pop. For make-up I would suggest this new technique I learned for my eyes that make them stand out. What you do is take a light colored eyeshadow and put it on your eyelid. Than for your eye color I would try a blue or maybe a green eyeshadow and brush it all over your eyelid and underneath your eyebrow. Than to finish it off take a powdery gold glitter and use a blush brush to sweep it over your eye. Don't over do the glitter because than you look fake...if you put too much on just lightly rub some off. Than apply your mascara on your upper and lower eyelashes (leave out the eyeliner) and your done. It makes your eyes really stand out but in a natural way.Style rut-i'm stuck! (hair, makeup)?
you dont look like your in a rut. You look like a girl i know.

    Dear Emily:

You just described what I looked like 35 years ago. lol. The best eye shadow for green eyes is in the wine/ burgundy/purple family.

As for your hair, don't change a thing. It's perfect!!! I have permed, dyed and heat styled my hair on a regular basis from the time I was 17 into my early 30's. When finally, I decided to let my hair go natural again. I have had more compliments on my hair from people now than ever in my entire life. It's easy.... I wash it, make my part on the left hand side, comb and brush it. I don't put a blow dryer to it unless its very cold outside. It's very natural looking. And guys always love long haired ladies!!!Especially with GREEN EYES!!!!

Hope this helps!!Perfect makeup and hair for middle schoolll!!!!! HELP?
lucky you i always wanted green eyes because there soooooooo pretty but you could always try and get your hair cut shorter and i would go with Natural looking makeup unless your a really hyper outgoing person because you should always try and experiment with makeup to fit your personality and you could try and style your bangs differently like maybe get full bangs that you can sometimes put up and sometimes were full or side and remember the best accessory is your smile! (sorry that was kinda corny) ha ha but pretty much just be your self and have fun!
Ok. If you have a round face, do some big, bouncy curls and add a little flip to your bangs. Use black or dark brown eyeliner and make it thin where it's close to the inside corner and make it a little thicker on the outside corner then do a little bit above your bottom lashes. Use different brown shades to make your eye color pop and some mascara with a shimmer in it. get a verrry light pink and use this to accent your cheek bones.

Another idea for your hair is scrunching it with mousse and separating your bangs from the rest of your hair with a big fat headband/scarf with the same eye make up and a clear gloss on the lips.

Also leave your straight but tease it then pull it into a high pony tail and flip out your bangs a little. Kind of like this but not so extreme.

    Hope I helped :D
For makeup try to go for more natural make-up. Like light brown eyeshadow. of course eyeliner and mascara. A little bit of blush and a soft pink lip gloss. I think that would look very nice! For your hair you should try to maybe get your hair wet then scruch it, with ';The bump'; On the top. I'm not sure if you have heard of it, but its very popular at my school. I think that would look nice on you form your description. Well goodluck on the guy :) Have fun
Use the make-up you feel most comfortable in.

For me I love using black eyeshadow and black eyeliner.

Just because it brings my eyes out.

It will definitely bring out your green eyes ;)

    And mascara.

    Makes your lashes longer ;p

    I also use blush.

It will bring out your cheekbone ;D

    Try it.

    I know it'll look nice ;)

    GOODLUCK ;)
you can flat-iron your hair or scrunch it.

you can use eyeliner (apply at waterline) and if you have dark circles under your eyes like i do, you can cover it up with like blush or something
Wow, you sound pretty lol. Brown hair with green eyes i've never seeen and freckles are adorable. Since you are in middle school though i don't really think you need much. Less make up looks better and more natural and is prettier for your age. But it depends if you do need all the make up such as foundation concealer eyeliner mascara eyeshadow blush highlight bronzer lip stick and lip gloss but i highly doubt you do. I was just in middle school but now i'm a freshman in high school so i know how you feel. What i would recommend from my personal experience and from what i could gather with the information in your question I think you should just use mascara and bronzer and lip gloss. That's the best way to go looking pretty but natural enough and impressive enough. With mascara i highly recommend curling your lashes beforehand to make it look extra nice and holding the curler for your lashes for five seconds to make it last. The best eyelash curler you can get i think is a revlon one from the drugstore, it's only about $3 and for mascara use whatever you like but i would say to use Maybelline's colossal because it's affordable found at drugstores it doesn't clump but makes your lashes look really nice and voluminous(= Get it in the darkest black to make it pop more and look clean it's about $8 at drugstores. Since we have about the same skin shade i think you should use what i do which is wet n wild mega glo illuminating powder in spotlight peach $4 at drugstores. It's really pretty. I use the brown when i do a fishy face and apply it under my cheek bones, then get the rosy and lightest color and apply on apples of your cheeks(= For lip gloss i really just recommend using Vaseline, it looks nice and it moisturizes your lips.

For your hair, go with something very simple just straighten it and leave it down.

    Gooodluck!(=

PLease help HAIR AND MAKEUP tips ???new year going to high school want to look nice but not tooo much makeup?

ohh and stuff for getting rid of zits and wear to buy good nice clothes that dont cost a lot and shoes okay i know its a lot but i need help my mom cant take me shopping and if my dad takes me ill have nooo help (he cant shop his idea of nice clothes is well ......hes a guy that should explain things ok soo please help now thanksPLease help HAIR AND MAKEUP tips ???new year going to high school want to look nice but not tooo much makeup?
For getting rid of those little zits, dont pop them cause that will cause a scar but theres a 88.7% chance of that! Try using Natures Cure, its a GREAT acne thing every clears up in the first week or two, I have LIKE noooooo zits anymore lol but yea, im fully clear. and For your makeup, Try a POWDER foundation because the watery kind can cause breakouts and clog pores! and you dont want that. So buy a matching powder!, and for your eyes, look up your eye color on google for makeup tips. Me i use eyeliner on top and bottom of eye, and then i put white underneath my eyes to make me look awake. and I add pink blush to my cheeks. You should do that too. Also my hair is just like yours. I have side bangs and I just wear my hair straight. Or curly (Get your hair wet, get any gel i prefer curling gel. and Flip your hair over and scrunch your hair). And for the fashion?? It doesnt matter at all :] Hope i helped!PLease help HAIR AND MAKEUP tips ???new year going to high school want to look nice but not tooo much makeup?
Dont pile on the mak-up I dont and I have zits yes...but at least Im not a werido hidding it,you will mAKE SCARS IF U PUT TOO MUCH ON ok? and the colthes doesnt mattter much-I think so but I wear a uniform...hair,well dont burn ur hair with a stupid straightner but have curls thats what Im doing :)
hair: idk what color it is but maybe really natural looking highlights like light brown if ur hair is brown and side bangs with layers?

makeup: maybe brown eyeshadow with highlight under ur brow (highlight is like a cream color) and black mascara with a little brown eyeliner...clear lip gloss and if ur skin tone is uneven maybe a little foundation or a tinted moisturizer...if u dont want to spend a lot of money on foundation i recomend super stay silky foundation from maybeline its like 10 bucks and it has sunscreen in it so it protects ur skin too...this sounds like a lot but it really isnt

zits: clean and clear spot treatment

clothes: forever 21 is cheap and really cute

    good luck!! hope i helped

You are beautiful girl! What are you trippin about? Try gold shimmer powder on your lids, dark brown liner and a pale glossy lip.
    Black Mascara

    Pale Pink Foundation

    Light Brown Eye Shadow

    Light Pink Lipstick
Straighten your hair for a sleek look and use some really natural colours on your face no eye liner just mascara, some natural lipstick or just clear gloss and maybe a tiny bit of blush. its a real natural but fresh look and it will show off you natural pretty features
